Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located on the equator, close to Nanyuki Town, between the majestic snow-capped Mount Kenya and the slopes of the Aberdares. The main gate of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located 14 kilometers from the exit for the equator, just before Nanyuki.
The majority of Kenya’s rhinos are found at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The Big Five may be found in Ol Pejeta, which also has the most range of activities of any park in Kenya. If you’re planning on visiting the Samburu National Reserve and Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, it’s a terrific site to include on your itinerary. The second-tallest mountain in Africa and one of the top trekking locations in Africa, Mount Kenya, is located adjacent to the reserve.
Ol Pejeta is home to the only two remaining northern white rhinos on the earth. It is the largest black rhino refuge in East and Central Africa. Chimpanzees can only be viewed there and nowhere else in Kenya; the sanctuary was built to care for creatures that were saved from the illicit market. It runs a very successful cattle program and has some of the greatest predator numbers in the entire country of Kenya.
In order to ensure that wildlife conservation results in greater infrastructure, healthcare, and education for the following generation of wildlife guardians, Ol Pejeta also assists the local communities that surround its borders. Ol Pejeta translates as “Place of Burning”. The pastoralist groups gave it that name hundreds of years ago because they use the region to burn the grass in order to kill ticks.
How To Get To Ol Pejeta Conservancy
- It takes about 4 hours to drive from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta. It’s excellent to have a car because it makes getting to and from the park simple. The 13 kilometers from Nanyuki Town to Ol Pejeta are on a graded dirt road, and the main entrance gate for the conservancy, Rongai gate, is easily accessible from Nanyuki Town on a tar road.
- By taking a flight with Safarilink or Air Kenya from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Nanyuki Airport, you can arrange to be picked up by your hotel once you arrive. Your safari operator will arrange your transportation to and from Ol Pejeta if you are traveling as part of a tour.
- If you don’t feel like driving, you can take the bus to Nanyuki and arrange trips to the park from there.
