Ol Pejeta Conservancy Activities

Here is a list of the Top activities in which a visitor can undertake while at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Nanyuki.

1.Tracking Lions
To assist rangers in determining the position of the pride, Ol Pejeta has equipped a few lions with tracking collars. The 360km2 range is accessible to the lions. Trackers have been installed to assure their security and to assist the rangers in protecting them from poachers. Access to Lion Tracking costs $60 per person. The hours for this activity are everyday from 6:00 to 8:00 and 15:30 to 17:30.

2. Night Game Drives
The Big Five, as well as endangered animals including the African wild dog, cheetah, and oryx, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, and Jackson’s hartebeest, can be found in the conservancy. Giraffes, baboons, hippos, and hyenas are also nearby. At Ol Pejeta, night drives are also an option, giving visitors the chance to see the nocturnal animals that frequent these grasslands. This activity is available daily from 19:00 – 21:00 and 21:00 – 23:00.

3. Dog Tracking
The option to interact with the K9 anti-poaching squad is one of Ol Pejeta’s most distinctive activities. Each dog of Ol Pejeta’s K9 team has a different specialty, from tracking the smell of a poacher to detecting ammunition to attacking and detaining suspected suspects. Dogs are essential in anti-poaching activities. Starting at 8.30 am at the Morani Information Center, this two-hour event lasts.

4. Visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Since 1993, an island in the park has housed orphaned chimpanzees in Sweetwater’s chimpanzee sanctuary, which offers a natural environment to the non-indigenous species. Ol Pejeta is the only area in Kenya where you may find chimpanzees, who are cared for at the sanctuary before being released into the conservancy. Get special access to see the chimpanzees during their feeding time and as they engage in enrichment activities within their enclosures. This activity is available daily from 8:30 – 12:30 & 14:30 – 16:30 (Free Entry).

5. Guided Bush & Bird Walks

A terrific experience, a bush walk is significantly different from a vehicle-based safari. The rangers will show out the finer details of the wilderness, such as animal footprints, birds, flora, and droppings—things you would overlook while driving. The 90,000 acres on Ol Pejeta are like the back of their hands to the rangers. They spend the entire day outside every day and are familiar with the routes, the best spots to spot animals, and a wealth of fascinating facts about the various species. You can now make reservations for your daily 6:30 am–8:30 am and 3:30 pm–5:30 pm guided Bush and Bird walks.

6. Running in the Wild

Would you like to run 5 to 7 kilometers through the park? So why not go for a run with the rangers of Ol Pejeta? You will likely see wildlife on your run too.

 7. Ride With Rhinos

Take a morning or an evening ride on one of the safari horses owned by Ol Pejeta through the 600-acre Endangered Species Enclosure. These rides will take you through a region Ol Pejeta set aside as a predator-free zone for the northern white rhinoceros’ rehabilitation. You will ride through herds of the critically endangered Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest in addition to encountering the world’s final three northern white rhinos. Numerous other animals, such as southern white rhinoceros and a wide variety of plains game, will also be encountered.The rides will only be open to experienced riders and some proof of riding ability will be required at the point of booking; clients judged to be of insufficient riding ability will not be permitted to undertake this activity. Ol Pejeta will supply all tack and riding hats; clients will be responsible for their attire. We recommend that the legs and arms are covered. Rides for up to 4 riders will be available daily at 08:00, 10:00, 14:00 and 16:00 and will last approximately one hour.

8. Nature Walk the Ol Pejeta Nature Trail

You can get some exercise by walking along the Ewaso Nyiro River’s nature route. You can hire a guide if you’d like to travel with one for a small fee. Open daily from 09:30 – 16:30 (Free Entry).

 9. Meet the Northern White Rhinos; Fatu & Najin

You have the chance to come close to Fatu and Najin, the two last Northern White Rhinos. They are Sudan’s daughter and granddaughter, the last living male of his species who passed away in 2018. One of two subspecies of the White Rhino, the other being the Southern White Rhino, is the Northern White Rhino. The two rhinos are the only two northern white rhinos still living today.This activity is available daily from the Morani Information Centre at 08:30 – 09:30, 11:00 – 12:00, and 15:00 – 16:00 and can be booked online. It is also available for people visiting the Conservancy on day trips.

10. Visit the Morani Information Centre

The Morani Information Center gives visitors the chance to learn about the various wildlife species that call Ol Pejeta home, including their physiology, behavior, and habitat. It also provides information on the daily efforts made by Ol Pejeta Conservancy to protect species and conserve wilderness. You can also investigate a converted rhino shipping crate. The Morani Center is open from 9 to 5 every day and is free of charge.

 11. Visit Baraka the Blind Black Rhino

One of the first rhinos to be born on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy was Baraka. He tragically developed a cataract in the other eye after losing one to infection following a battle, and as a result, become entirely blind. Baraka was transported from the wild to a 100-acre cage because he had a slim chance of surviving on his own. Baraka is currently a representative of his kind and a well-liked attraction at Ol Pejeta. Visitors can observe and feed him up close from a feeding platform, which is a memorable experience. Baraka welcomes guests every day from 7:00 till 17:30 (Free Entry).

12. Become a Junior Ranger for the Day

Read on if you’re traveling with kids between the ages of 4 and 12 and are concerned about how you’ll keep them amused on a safari. By purchasing a Junior Ranger Pack, your kids can now spend the day in the role of ranger. Along with a book full of entertaining activities, these kits also come with crayons for coloring and stickers. The kids must complete all of the activities as they explore the conservancy, answering the booklet’s questions along the way. At the conclusion of their journey, the tourism staff at the Morani Information Center will be waiting to validate them as  honorary rangers by having them repeat the ranger oath and give them a diploma, hat, and pin.

13.Learn about the integration of livestock and wildlife.
Spend a few hours with the team if you want to learn how Ol Pejeta maintains its cattle and develops ecological hotspots. Visitors are welcome to see the herd, explore the ‘predator-proof’ cattle bomas, and participate in some of the daily activities. available every day at 8:00.

14. Check out the Equator Sign
Make a quick stop by the equator sign for a photo on the way into or out of the park.

 15. Hippo Hides 
Take a stroll along the Ewaso Nyiro river, and you will soon see the hippos that surface for sunlight. They are waiting patiently for you and are dressed in camouflage. The trail leading down to the hide is a beautiful natural path that meanders through numerous native plants that are used by the locals for food and healing. Every day from 7 am until 6:30 pm, the hide is accessible.
