Thomson’s Falls Nyahururu

Thomson’s Falls Nyahururu is a 74-meter waterfall on the Ewaso Ngiro river in Laikipia County, a few kilometers from Lake Ol Bolossat, which descends from the Aberdare Ranges. It is about 4 hours by car from Nairobi and 3 kilometers from Nyahururu town.

The spectacular falls and the vapour they produce are a wonder, hidden by riparian vegetation on the slopes of the mountains. There is a trail that descends to the bottom of the ravine, and tourists can observe the falls from above. The waterfall is best viewed by hiking down to the river. Be careful of the path as you descend because it is fairly steep. Since it gets chilly as you go down, always pack a warm sweater and a pair of appropriate hiking boots. One of the tallest hippo pools in Kenya is located upstream from the falls. The falls were featured in the 1988 motion picture The Man in the Brown Suit, which was a television production.

Visitors come to the falls from all around the world. The vibrant birds, the nature route to the falls’ base, and the local dancers beside the falls are a few of the things to do here. For a charge, the traditional dancers at the entryway will gladly take pictures with guests. They also amuse guests and offer information. Schoolchildren, historical and environmental buffs, as well as artists shooting films of the scenic view , are among the visitors.

A lovely play area for kids, a craft village, and stores selling trinkets and other cultural artifacts are all located close to the main entrance. Thomson’s Falls is a wonderful place for a picnic and is also home to many creatures, including baboons, Columbus monkeys, and many bird species. The falls are a key source of revenue for the County of Laikipia as well as the surrounding town of Nyahururu. The majority of the money is made by domestic and foreign visitors who pay a fee at the gate.
A kilometer from Thomson’s Falls Lodge are the Hippo sanctuary, the Aberdare National Park, Solio Ranch, and the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which are all home to the big five.
